This week, Olivia developed a low grade fever that lasted 4-5 days. We thought it was due to teething at first, since she was gnawing on her hands like crazy, but it reached 103 on Saturday afternoon (the 4th day) and that night, O woke up screaming. She no longer had a fever, but she was clinging to us and crying really hard. After an hour (as we were waiting for a call back from the doctor’s office), she started playing with her toys and asking for milk and running around the house. We were so happy to see her slowly getting back to her normal self that we didn’t mind being up at 2am. A nurse called us back and told me that she could hear O playing and laughing in the background, so there wasn’t much reason for concern. To get her to go back to sleep, we pretended it was her regular bedtime – we gave her milk, read her stories and put her back in bed, and it worked! Of course, I couldn’t get to sleep, so I started researching. Teething just didn’t make sense to me, not for a fever lasting that long. I think I finally solved the mystery – the culprit was probably the MMR shot she had at her 15 month appointment. Apparently, it can result in a fever and slight rash 7-10 days after it’s administered.
